Street Crane Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Further Growth Plans

Street Crane, the biggest crane and hoist manufacturer in the UK, is celebrating its 70th anniversary and has announced plans for further growth.

Started by Peter Street in 1946 in an 800 sq ft workshop based in Sheffield with only £88, the family-run business has gone from strength to strength, and now employs 350 people on sites in Sheffield and High Peak.

With a UK client base including leading brands such as Siemens, JCB, Hitachi Rail and Rolls Royce, Street has also grown to be a global exporter, supplying cranes and components to customers in 48 countries throughout the globe.

Chairman Martin Street said that the firm has experienced rapid growth in the last few years which is mainly the result of their latest range of products which has expanded their exporting capabilities.

Street continued: Since introducing their new range of ZX hoists ten years ago, our exports have grown significantly all over the world, particularly in the US. Our products are sold through a network of approved distributors, which is continuously expanding and adding to our sales success. Twenty years ago we had just three export partners, today we have more than 100.

This business model means that we’re placed to continue to build on our success. As well as plans to double our turnover within 10 years, we are investing in developing new products that will continue to keep us ahead of the competition. With a large in-house research and development team, we have a number of new products in the pipeline with the first expected to be launched later this year. We are also continuing to develop new sales software that will make it easier for our distributors to sell our cranes and hoists.

He added that despite the current economic and political uncertainty around the UK and other parts of the world, he insists it is very much business as usual for the company.
