ICE North Westâs regional director, Darrell Matthews, has welcomed the news of Liverpoolâs devolution deal and offered to put the collective expertise and experience of North West civil engineers at the service of decision-makers in Liverpool.
Speaking after a meeting of infrastructure experts, attended by experts from all over the North West, Darrell said: “We have some 6,000 members in the North West, and we want to put that collective knowledge, experience and expertise at the service of devolved government in Liverpool, to help decision-makers face the challenges of meeting the city-region’s infrastructure needs in coming decades.
“Devolution offers us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to think about infrastructure from a fresh perspective and make sure we get the decision-making right. Infrastructure is all about making life better for people both now and for decades to come, but it takes a lot of planning and thinking.
“So civil engineers have a lot to offer to decision-makers, and we are ready to help in any way we can.”
