DB Cargo Improves Production Capabilities

Freight and infrastructure specialists DB Cargo UK have announced the grand opening of a new wheel lathe facility in Toton, Nottinghamshire, which will significantly improve the company’s manufacturing and production capabilities.

The company will now have the ability to re-profile wheels on rail wagons without the lumbering worry of them having to be removed or replaced, therefore the service that DB Cargo UK will now be providing will be much more efficient and quicker than previously.

This news comes as further positivity for the UK rail freight operators, as they have also been awarded key accreditation from the Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS), meaning that powered wheelsets can now be produced at the Stoke workshop which is under operation by Axiom Rail – DB Cargo’s sister company.

These developments build on DB Cargo UK’s ability to service its own fleet and add to the services it can offer to external companies too said Andrew Byrne, the head of maintenance at DB Cargo UK. We’ve created world class facilities. This demonstrates DB Cargo UK’s dedication to advancing technology and new innovations and developments.

The powered wheelsets will be manufactured as part its fleet, which in addition to the usual wagon wheelsets will include Class 66 locomotives following the RISAS status, which was granted for the Stoke workshop. DB Cargo UK will now have the ability to both service and manufacture powered and wagon wheelsets for third parties, as well as still providing for its own fleet thanks to these recent positive developments for the company.

So it appears that for DB Cargo UK the future is bright thanks to these improvements that have made the production capabilities much more efficient. The company will now be expecting to grow significantly more than it would have done previously as a result.
